Already this year we have seen Google’s Android operating system have another huge swell in popularity and predictions that the software is set to become the biggest selling OS in the market look to be right on the mark.
In February alone we saw the announcement of several powerful, new Android mobiles that look to reinforce Google’s position as the premier programmer for smartphones in the world.
Take the HTC Desire S for example. The first Desire came from nowhere to be one of the phones of 2010, winning multiple awards and proving extremely popular with consumers all over the world with its combination of impressive hardware and one of the best interpretations of the Android system we have seen so far.
In February, the follow up to this phone was revealed to be the Desire S and it seems to be evolution, not revolution from the developers at HTC. The phone has a similar processor, a 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM 8255 CPU but boasts 33% more RAM than the old model at 768MB. The screen is also similar with a 3.7″ 480 x 800 pixel display, but this time it is a Super LCD that has been utilised so here’s hoping that it will be even more crisp and colourful than the original Desire.
We have also seen the Samsung Galaxy range updated with the announcement that the extremely powerful Galaxy S II will be released in the coming months. The first Galaxy was one of the few phones that could accurately boast to be superior to the HTC phone and this new upgrade looks absolutely fantastic, cementing Samsung’s rise back to the upper echelons of the mobile phone world. The phone will have a dual core 12 GHz processor that should be the match of anything else this year so you should look forward to getting your hands on one in the coming months.
